Describe your role at Marvel: As the Merchandising Coordinator at Marvel, I am responsible for supporting the Merchandising and Licensing Department. Typical tasks include configuring sales pitch presentations for internal and external use, creating mood boards, identifying business opportunities, researching co-branded partnership ideas, trend spotting, building and maintaining financial spreadsheets, and doing product development and merchandise design. I also manage several small licensing deals and will be attending the North America Licensing Expo in Las Vegas to help Marvel's Licensing Team and manage the Marvel Booth and schedule. Essentially, I do a little bit of everything!
What is your proudest moment OR most exciting work project? My proudest and most exciting moment occurred in December 2010. I was offered a full-time position to join Marvel after concluding a three-month internship in Merchandising. Upon starting my internship, I knew very little about the business of character licensing, however, I was intrigued and excited by the endless possibilities that I saw in Marvel as a consumer products company. I worked extremely hard to contribute while absorbing as much information as possible along the way. Over the course of my internship, I developed strong relationships with the members of the Merchandising and Consumer Products Team, especially with my manager. Moreover, Marvel sets high expectations for individuals selected as interns, evidenced by the serious responsibilities and important projects that were assigned to me. The invitation to become part of Marvel on a full-time basis gave me a great sense of accomplishment and truly reflected the amazing experience I had as an intern and now as the Merchandising Coordinator at Marvel.
Why do you like working for Marvel? I love working at Marvel because the environment is extremely fast-paced and I am constantly on-the-go. I am exposed to multiple departments regularly and every day at Marvel provides a new learning experience. In addition, no two days are ever the same here. One day I am running to the garment district to collect fabric swatches, while the following day entails meeting with licensees or compiling sales projections. Finally, I love Fashion and Fashion Design and the versatility of the Marvel brand has enabled me to connect and incorporate fashion and design with my every-day job!
